Resources and Games for Qur’an and Arabic learning

This page is designed to be a resource for interested parents, guardians, and teachers looking for tools to assist them in teaching their students Arabic and the Qur’an. I intend for this page to be a repository for various digital aids, and I will be updating it on a regular basis.

The Mushaf

If you are looking for a replica of the day-to-day Qur’an manuscript we use, here you go! The tajweed rules in the manuscript are coloured. You can either go through the pages or click on al-Ajzā wa-l-Suwar (Juzs and surahs), located somewhere up. Make sure you download it along with the data file and save both in the same folder.

Qāidat Baghdādiya and Juz ʿAmma

Many of us (Nigerians) learned Qur’an recitation using Qāidat Baghdādiya as children and would prefer to use it for teaching. Click here to get the simple version without colour. If you prefer something more colourful and practical, you can get the upgraded version here.

Etkinliklerle Elif Bâ (Alif Ba with exercises)

You might find this useful as a supplement for Qāidat Baghdādiya. Published by the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs, it has bright colours and practical activities for kids age 4-6. You may need to print certain pages and cut them for play-way. While the learning process can be enlivened with this book, If you are not using the Turkey-printed mushaf in your community, some signs in the book may be confusing. For instance, the kasra sign is a vertical stroke instead of a horizontal one. Nonetheless, it is useful as a supplementary resource for some topics. More bad news? The instructions are written in Turkish! But then, you might not need to read them to figure it out. One alternative would be to use a translation app.

Arabic letters flashcards

Flashcards have become an essential part of pedagogy. You might want to use flashcards to teach the Arabic language. I downloaded some flashcards from Belaraby apps to teach letters. You may visit the website to see more valuable resources.

Durūs al-Lughat al-ʿArabiyya

Yes, The Madinah Arabic book! You may download books 1-3 from here. If you wish to see the video of the book being taught in English, you may visit this Youtube channel.

Gateway to Arabic

Another book for Arabic learning is Dr Imran Alawiye’s Gateway to Arabic language. You may download books 1-3 here. You can visit the author’s Youtube channel to follow his classes.

Please note that there are no copyright notices on any of these resources that I shared.

Games

Using Wordwall, I am attempting to develop several play exercises for various lessons. The first set is surah games designed to help students memorise the verses of short surahs. The second set includes different spelling proficiency levels. I plan to keep this section fresh, InshaaAllah!
