7 Mobile Apps that will make your Ramadan (Arabic, English, Yoruba and Turkish)

As Ramadan approaches, Muslims around the world are busy preparing themselves mentally, physically, and financially for the holy month. We pray to Allah to make us witness the month and accept our worship. It is well-known that Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an, as Allah said, “The month of Ramadan, in which the Qur’an was revealed”. For many Muslims, Ramadan marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to the Qur’an, be it through studying, reading, memorisation, or changing their attitude towards it.

To aid you in your journey with the Book of Allah, I have compiled a list of helpful Qur’an-related apps. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced reader, these apps will provide you with valuable resources during Ramadan and beyond.

  1. Mushaf al-Madina al-Nabawiyya

If you’re looking for a beautiful Qur’an app, the one produced by the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex is worth checking out. The app is a replica of the muṣḥaf al-Madina and has received a 4.6-star rating on Google Play. While there are many Qur’an apps available, this one offers some unique features:

This app offers a range of helpful features for Quranic study. For example, you can click on a verse to read its tafsir in Arabic – though to access the tafsir, you’ll need to download the package, which includes 13 books. If you encounter a gharib term, you can quickly check its meaning within the app.

When it comes to translations, you can click on a verse to see its translation – but be aware that you’ll need to pre-download your choice of language to use this feature. And if you prefer to listen to a recitation, the app offers six inbuilt reciters, including popular options like Muhammad Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him). Apart from these features, you can bookmark a page. This is useful if you want to continue recitation later or ask your teacher a question. You can read by selecting the page to read by surah or juz, making it flexible and useful for those who want to complete the Qur’an by reading a juz per day.

Using the app on a tablet gives you the sensation of reading from a proper muṣḥaf, which is excellent for memorisers who prefer reading from familiar pages. Additionally, the app has a Warsh version for our brethren in the Islamic Maghrib.

  • Tarteel AI

Tarteel AI, for me, is the definition of using technology for the sake of learning the deen. Tarteel AI is an artificial intelligence app built upon some sophisticated algorithms. It analyses your recitation and provides feedback. It essentially allows you to check for errors in your recitation. You can utilise it for muraja (revision) and get a beep when you recite incorrectly. You can save your mistakes as you try to rectify them. Also, it allows you to continue from where you started. It has received a 4.6-star rating on Google Play.

Note: It cannot replace a human teacher!

  • Al Quran (Tafsir & by Word)

This is another wonderful application. It is rated 4.8 on Google Play. It is created by the UK-based Greentech apps foundation, which works on creating Islamic apps. This app is designed primarily for translation, allowing users to view multiple translations of a verse side-by-side. You can even view multiple translations in different languages simultaneously if you’re multilingual. In addition, the app allows you to track your activity and statistics and includes a daily reminder feature.

But that’s not all – the app also includes an option to “pin” your favourite verses for easy reference later, as well as an inbuilt dictionary of Quranic vocabulary. And for Arabic readers, there are 15 Arabic tafsirs available for reference. The app offers Tafsir Ibn Kathir and Tafsir Jalalayn in English. Plus, you can bookmark verses, listen to recitations, and take notes to help you deepen your understanding and memorisation of the Quran.

Overall, this app is an invaluable tool for anyone looking to deepen their understanding and connection to the Quran.

  • الباحث القرآني (Quranic Researcher)

As its name suggests, this app is designed specifically for Arabic speakers engaged in rigorous Quranic research. Developed by the Nuqāya group, which has also created a beautiful hadith version of the app, it offers an impressive range of features.

One of the most notable aspects of the app is its access to 41 books covering different genres of tafsir, as well as nine books on gharib al-Qur’an and Ma’an al-Qur’an, ten on irab (including one with a table for irab analyses, which is particularly useful for teachers), four on qiraat, and six books on ahkam al-Qur’an from various madhhab. And the best part? You don’t have to manually search through each book to find the relevant explanation – the app automatically takes you to the page explaining the selected verse.

But that’s not all – the app also offers a variety of muṣaḥif and mujamat for even more comprehensive study options. And if you prefer to use the app on your PC or browser, it’s also available directly on furqan.co.

  • Hasenat

Let’s take a look at a Turkish Quran translation app – the Hasenat app. This app offers ten translations you can view simultaneously, making it easier to compare different interpretations.

In addition to its translation capabilities, the app includes a number of valuable features. You can search for a Quranic word using either Turkish or Arabic or a specific verse using the name of the surah and number. One handy feature is its index, which directs you to verses that discuss a wide range of topics. The app also includes Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır’s tafsir. And if you want to take notes or bookmark important verses, you can easily do so within the app. Sharing verses with others is also simple.

  • Quran Progress

If you’re someone who wants to deepen your understanding of the Quran by mastering its vocabulary, the Qur’an Progress app is an excellent choice. This app offers lessons that can help you develop your Quranic vocabulary to understand the text better while reading.

One of the app’s standout features is its focus on numerical facts – for example, it can tell you how many times a particular word is used in the Quran. This kind of information can be beneficial for students of the Qur’an as it provides insights into the patterns and themes in the Qur’an.

  • Qur’an in Yoruba

This is a Qur’an translation based on the work of Abu Rahimah Mikail, Al-Kur’an Alapon-Onle. It is the only Yoruba translation app that I am aware of. The Yoruba text is boldly written with accent marks, making it easy to read and understand.

One of the app’s useful features is the ability to share verses directly from the app. Additionally, the app comes with a qiblah finder. It also includes Hisnul Muslim with an English translation for those who want to have their ‘citadel’ with them always. Overall, this app is a valuable resource for Yoruba-literate Muslims.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 5027

I hope you find this information beneficial. Don’t forget this slave of Allah in your dua. May Allah grant us the best of this Ramadan.

As salaam alaykum!
