Class speaks :What Ramadan means to me

We don’t want to be left behind in the joy and excitement that comes with Ramadan!

Last week, I asked my students to share their thoughts on this month of mercy and blessings. My students?  Yes, my ESL students who are beginners in English language. I started teaching them some months ago, at a weekend English Language lesson organized by the Kayseri International Students’ Organization.

So far, these youngsters have done so well. They are learning with dedication and perseverance that comes with learning a new language. I am proud and excited to share these short essays written as answers to “write a composition about the month of Ramadan”.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is very important for all Muslims because in this month we worship Allah more. In this month we fast. We fast because we should understand other hungry people. Also fast is important for our health because in our body useless things coming out.

We go to tarawih prayer for Allah’s sake. Actually, Ramadan is for helping other people. In this month Allah forgives us.

Felicitation to all Muslims for the holy month of Ramadan. From the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) “Do not break relationship with one another, nor fight with one another. Also do not keep hatred and jealousy against one another. O servants of Allah become brothers of one another”. Ramadan is the month in which we can get maximum mercy and blessing of Allah.  Let’s promise that from today onwards we will forget our differences, hatred and enmity. And we will live like brothers. Let’s promise that we will follow the teaching of our beloved prophet Muhammad (SAW). Seek forgiveness from Allah, give our parents and neighbours their rights and practice what we say.

The month of Ramadan is the best of all months. The revelation of the Qur’an began in it. All Muslims fast in the month of Ramadan. Actually, fasting keeps the people away from evil deeds. Fasting protects the people from evils.

Fasting is prescribed for all Muslims. Because the verse says:

O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off evil.[1]

Scholar Muhammad b. Salih Al- Uthaymin said; the wisdom behind the compulsion of fasting is piety and worship to worship God.

Fasting is consciousness. Fasting makes us to understand better the poor and oppressed. At the same time, after the month of Ramadan, we should reflect on the blessings and lessons.

According to a book that I read:

“The person who performs a fard deed in this month will attain the reward of a person who performs 70 fard deeds in other months.”

Ramadan is a very special month for Muslims. Everyone fasts and prays. Everyone is happy with the coming of Ramadan because after Ramadan, the festival comes. Even the children are fasting. It is a moment of happiness.

Muhteber, Turkish

Ramadan is the month of beauty and blessings. It is the most important factor that brings people together, reconcile them and make people happy. People cannot find the peace and blessing they find in Ramadan in the other 11 months. Ramadan is the most intense experience of solidarity and cooperation as it enables people to be calm with each other. It is great opportunity for Muslims to educate their souls and to get the pleasure of Allah. It is a blessed month that hosts the Qadr Night in which the Qur’an began to be revealed. And it is better than a thousand months. In Ramadan, the devil is restricted, and the Muslims are refreshed. Ramadan has a unique spiritual climate. It is the opportunity for heaven, mercy and salvation from hell.

The least I can say is “I am proud to be a teacher”.

[1] Baqarah 2:183. It could also be translated as “O you who believe, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous”

This is marvelous, baaraka-llahu-fiihim. In case your students are feeling unimpressed by their achievements – I have met people whose first and only language is English, yet , when they speak or write… they are completely unintelligible. Albeit still undergoing training, you students have made brilliant pieces.

These students have beautifully passed a splendid message indeed. I pray that Allah rewards their individual effort as a noble one.

Wow! nice constructs and full of wisdom. Me, personally appreciate this students because I met with them (2 days or so) and saw how it could be tasking learning English language. Also your style of teaching is the best of methods I know i.e intertwining religion with learning a language.

May Allah continue to benefit these kids and make them ambassadors of Al-islam and may Allah benefit you from your deeds and fill your heart with sincerity.

Maasha Allah, are you sure they just started learning English? they are writing like a pro. Büşra was penning down words with references like a scholar, kinda shows how dedicated to learning you are, even I don’t do that some times,, impressive. Anita’s words moved me to tears… who knows what she has been through or is going through,

Felt like she was trying to communicate her hurt. Anita, if you get to read this, I would like you to know Allah knows best that which we have no knowledge about, and if I’m correct
(as a human) that you have unspoken words behind those words, then, have no doubt that the one who created you and me, has the knowledge of your unspoken words, and He knows best reasons behind every occurrence, even when they aren’t pleasing to us, with love, from a Nigerian sister you have 😉 .
